Social Saturday

GLAMOUR BAZAAR

Mix a birthday bash an event and a full moon, and there is bound to be one interesting night to write about.

Earlier in the week, Rachel McCord sent me an invitation to her big birthday celebration at the Mondrian Hotel. I knew she was either going big or going home since her last Birthday Bash at the W Hotel, which was more of an intimate celebration. And boy was it. The invitation was exactly what I would expect from a fellow socialite and blogger, but obviously with her status, she’d be able to have it hosted by such a huge magazine such at Glamour. I rsvped at the last minute after dedicating my time to my family who had flown into town, but with good timing I was able to make it to her party once it began. My friend Heather was going to accompany me after she was free from work, and so we made our way together.

One thing that I hate about attending events at the Mondrian Hotel, is the parking. It royally sucks! I’m not a supporter of valet parking as I don’t trust strangers in my car, but I have a title to uphold as the parking queen which really pushes my patience of waiting for a spot to open in the most limited area of parking. One parking lot across the street is like an episode on Parking wars. You sit there and wait for either someone to leave or you fight for a spot. Heather and I at one point were on the verge of fighting, but I was able to maintain my aggression.

A couple of times we missed our chance of pouncing like a hidden tiger in the bushes, and right as we thought our luck was in the clear, I noticed a woman who looked awfully familiar to a party crashing opportunist that Heather and I equally dislike. Of course she was walking casually to her car with gift bag in hand. Go figure, we only know of one female in this city who only attends parties for the sake of a gift bag. Heather quickly ducked down in the passenger seat and I turned off my lights and drove to the other side to wait.

How the hell does she know Rachel and why is this city so small.

I knew that if she saw us, she’d take her time to reapply her crusty lips with her red lipstick testing whatever patience we had waiting for her to leave. Unfortunately, a car pulled in and grabbed the spot before we could swoop it. In Heather’s mind, first come first serve, applied to this game of going around the mullberry bush, but that was far from the truth. After about 45 mins later another car gave up on our game of bumper cars and we pulled into an already paid for spot.

Once inside, I was shocked at how many people were there to attend Rachel’s party. I even made a comment in regards to knowing all of Hollywood, but something was just a bit off. Right as we walked in, I greeted her husband Rick and for some strange reason I felt many eyes on me. I immediately went on the hunt for Rachel, who was dressed like a glittered cupcake. Other party guest were already surrounding her awaiting for pictures with the birthday girl.

So not giving it a chance to play tug of war with the princess, I gave my phone to her assistant to have our photos taken as well. A few people that we shared mutual acquaintance with popped up who I could really care less to hold a dull conversation with. If I’ve not picked up the phone to ask how you’ve been, then I’m not trying to catch up now. That’s just how Hollywood is. You bump into people by a fluke of convenience when attending the same party and leave it at just that.

After introducing Heather, who is a jewelry designer for her sister and actress, Anna-Lynne McCord, we roamed the rest of the party first looking for a drink. As the bar upstairs was packed with guest, the only question was if they had a specified drink menu that gives the option of an open bar; but I saw more people with credit cards that I figured the second bar downstairs is where there might have been a menu.

Being that it was a Glamour magazine  event, magazines were spread out with left over gift bags that guest had discarded once they got all the goodies out of the way. As I started taking photos, one nosey female felt the need to horn in on my personal business as if she had missed something. That’s when I boldly used my blogger titled and told her to keep her attention on her drink. Heather and I made our way downstairs to see if we would have better luck with getting a drink downstairs and to our annoyance, no open bar. We knew we weren’t the only two as we over heard other guest mummbling at the displeasure  of having an event without the leisure of enjoying a drink or bottle. Earlier on, I noticed a stage and saw one of my favorite models, Shaun Ross, introducing an artist by the name of Lion Babe .

I don’t know what it was, but I practically levitated towards her voice as she captivated the audience with her vocals and hair.

My god was this woman a human hybrid of Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Beyonce combined. To avoid the nagging irritation of one security personnel, I went closer to the stage to enjoy her performance. Heather joined me soon after and we let our hair down a little while listening to her soulful vocals.

She was not only stunning, but more so, phenomenal that she might give some of these current R&B divas a run for their money. Once her hypnotic spell was released from the crowd of people,  everyone went back to just casually standing around. Heather ran into a friend of hers who urged us to grab gift bags before they were all taken inside a designated area with vendors. There were nearly enough for every person at the party, but of course most of the tacky people just took what was inside and left the bag for others to fumble through.

I love actress Sandra Bullock,  who happened to be on the cover, so I figured I’d still take a bag and put her on my coffee table at home.

I wanted to get a few shots of the room filled with people either speaking with vendors about their products or making purchases.

I recognized a guy from my past social circle that I’ve since shown a sense of hostility for. First the party crasher and now this guy. He quickly turned around after we made sudden eye contact as If I was concerned with his model essence.

I walked up to the first set up of clothing folded on a table by George Loves , which is a soft hand made material easy to wear for the everyday woman. Preferably for the ones who like to roll out of bed in whatever they had on that’s decent enough to be seen out in public.

As soon as I started talking is when I got into work mode leaving Heather to catch up with her friend. I noticed a group of women surrounding a, my secret garden, table full of delicately laced brassieres and jewelry made by AmiesLaVie .

The owner and women behind the Los Angeles boutique were absolutely gorgeous and gave off a feeling of fluff and everything pixie fairy. Towards the wall, they had a rack full of clothing that was made for purchases, but what took me for a surprise, was their incentive of a business trade. If I shouted them out on my social media including to hash tag and a follow their brand, I would then receive a free outfit from their line. I tried maintaining my composer of excitement after receiving something free with just a simple request of a shout out, and made a shout out on my instagram in return for an outfit.

I had the most difficult time in trying to get people out of my photos at the next booth.

Everyone was so quick at grabbing these customed vegan leather made wallets that interchangeably turn into a reusable bag. Big Bag Theory ,

image

not to be confused with the Big Bang Theory.

is a unique constellation of a going green tote bag and wallet. I was very appreciative that I was allowed to take home a free item and I also like the idea of being able to switch an easily accessible item into and everyday purpose item for carrying things, but I’m not all for the inconvenient combination. As a wallet, it’s cute, fun, sophisticated; yet when I open it up, it leaves no room to place my essentials that I would put inside.

image

When you open it up, it’s stuffed with the reusable material instead. Once you use the tote, I don’t like that my gorgeous Maroon wallet is being used as a coaster when placing my tote down.

I’ve thought about giving this to my mother, but even she wouldn’t have the patience in fumbling around trying to stuff the tote back into the wallet.

Earlier, I saw a few people I wasn’t all that fond in seeing, but one face always make a casual run in pleasant. Sergio and I go a several years back through mutual cliques and friendships before he got his rise as a noted actor on the hit show The Extant co-starring Halle Berry. I remembered him as the guy on the Pepsi ad; so, it was only fair to subliminally throw some “Shade and Read ” after he once tried pulling the contact my people card.

image

Ha, you tried it!

The only issue is that I had politely  asked the wrong idiot to take it this photo. Granted, I hate asking people because they take everything other than your face; an ear, a foot and maybe even themselves, but this women after five tries just could not get it right. From her not knowing how to work this years technology to people walking in front of the lense, we all grew impatient. Especially by her lack of modern day knowledge.  I’ll just stick to taking selfies. Funny enough, when I asked Sergio how he knew Rachel, he didn’t.  In fact he didn’t even know of there being a birthday party within the event.

Okay, now my mind started really playing tricks on me or maybe I was taken for a loop. There were two different events and people had either attended one or the other, but not exactly the same, at least not under the impression it appeared to be.

That night was just odd and I could  feel myself completely out of my own character, so Heather and I decided it was time to go. We went back over to Rachel to say our goodbyes who was posted in one area near the pool. I would’ve assumed her to take the entire upstairs location like most private parties I’ve been to so there would be no confusion. By this time, no one was playing tug of war with her attention,  but I just didn’t feel organic enough in sitting down after our night had come to an end. As we were leaving, we noticed her assistant in a corner lighting candles to a birthday cake. I couldn’t leave just yet, so we walked back following the cake to at least properly send her birthday wishes.

Full Moon Bazaar and Glamour definitely hosted and fulfilled the concept of depicting a night under the pretense of a full moon; and while we had our own unusual blast, my head is still fabulously spinning. I received great gifts, listened to mesmerizing music and got to have a girls night out. I can’t say I didn’t have a good time, but at least this time around, I didn’t order a cake only to have it tossed into a fireplace.
